FROM CUSTOM
KNIFEMAKER, RANDALL KING
"I have made knives since part time from 1987 until 1995 when I started
full time into the knife business, The success of the movie"Last of the
Mohicans" and my work on this film led to other projects and has kept me
busy and away from my usual knife show circuits. Seven years ago I started a
project with Paragon Cutlery that has taken most of my time from making custom
knives but I still manage to make a few each year.
"I use
ATS-34 as my favorite steel, but I have worked with D-2 , 440-C , and O-1 on
an occasional basis, I have worked most handle materials, but prefer Desert
Ironwood. Stag horn, and Mother of Pearl. My preference is for a mirror finish,
hence the ATS-34, but will use a satin, or beadblast finish on some models.
Unlike some 'Custom Makers' All of my custom knives are made 100% by me using
only a few tools."
