C. Platts Sons Cutlery Company is named for the five sons who survived the death of their father, Charles W. Platts, Sr. (a former cutlers apprentice from Sheffield, England) in 1900. W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery Company purchased the company in 1905. The Platts Brothers consistent product quality earned them special recognition in an 1897 United States Trade Report which read, there is no make of pocket cutlery on the American market today
equal to that of C. Platts Sons, of Eldred, PA.
